2-Volume Henri Matisse: A Novel by Aragon translated from the French by Jean Stewart. Published in New York by Harcourt Brace Jovanovich in 1972, this 721-page set is the first American edition of this work. There are 541 illustrations total, of which 155 are in color. Both volumes are in very good condition, with clean, unmarked pages and tight bindings. The dust jackets show minor wear, and the covers have some red discoloration at the bottom near the spine, probably from the red slipcover. The slipcover has staining and minor water damage, and the front board of Volume 2 shows minor evidence of moisture. Overall, this is a clean set.
